BOU TROUNCES COMPETITION AT BELGIAN GP
T
oni Bou is in a position to take
his 10th World Trials Champi-
onship after another notable per-
formance at the Belgian GP, July
10. The Repsol Honda Team rider
took his eighth win of the season
at Comblain-au-Pont, the only
single-day event on the calendar,
and has stretched his champion-
ship lead to 23 points over his
nearest rival, Adam Raga.
Bou's day didn't start off very
strong, after a crash on the
first lap aggravated a nagging
shoulder injury. But the Span-
iard battled through the pain
and finished the opening lap in
fourth. From there he returned
to form and bested his rivals to
finish the day with a 10-point
lead over TRS Factory Team
rider Raga.
"I was able to settle the race
in my favor at the end of the
second lap," said Bou. "But
the riding wasn't up to much
as I wasn't feeling too good on
the first lap. I had injured my
shoulder during training and in
spite of not feeling right I was
able to make it through. I'm very
pleased with the result but I will
have to work hard to get the
shoulder in shape for the trial in
England next week."
Third place went to Albert
Cabestany of the Sherco Fac-
tory team, followed by Jeroni
Fajardo (Vertigo Factory Team)
and Bou's teammate Takahisa
Fujinami. CN
