They both wanted to pass leader Sykes but Giugliano also wanted to make sure he was ahead of Davies, which made for some serious defense on some seriously fast sections of track. It worked, as Giugiano—still winless in 108 race starts—was still showing his top class cre- dentials after a disappointing Saturday. Davies was third, and dropped way behind Sykes for third in the championship. Behind fourth-place rider in race one, van der Mark, Alex Lowes (Pata Yamaha Official WorldSBK Team) blasted his way to fifth, but only after losing a late place and complaining about not being able to pass anybody. It was a similar story for him in race two, and in attempting to re-pass his teammate Canepa he fell in the final corner, almost collecting Canepa and the sec- ond Yamaha. Lowes restarted for 14th, Canepa eighth. Lorenzo Savadori (IodaRacing Team Aprilia) was once more on the gas in his rookie WorldSBK year for Aprilia, running clear and clean to sixth in race one, but a faller in the first attempt at race two on Sunday. Even more of a star in his own first run around the rim of the old dry lake was Xavi Fores (Barni Racing Team Ducati), reborn as a threat since his team swapped to Öhlins sus- pension midseason.
