BELLINO DOUBLES AT GP OF SPAIN
H
usqvarna's Mathias Bel-
lino was the man to beat in
the EnduroGP class of the FIM
Enduro World Championship.
On Saturday at the AMV GP of
Euskadi (Spain), the Frenchman
celebrated his first win since the
opening round of the season,
and followed it up with another
win on Sunday for a perfect
weekend.
Bellino boosted himself in
the championship while Beta
rider Steve Holcombe sank. The
double winner from the previ-
ous round suffered a mechani-
cal failure on Saturday and a
mediocre sixth-place finish on
Sunday. Eero Remes also had a
disastrous weekend with hardly
any points on the board after
two days of racing. The misfor-
tune of Holcombe and Remes
left the podium door open for
Alex Salvini and Manuel Monni
on Saturday, while Loic Larrieu
and Nathan Watson got on the
rostrom on Sunday.
Sherco rider Matt Phillips
didn't have his best finishes of
the season, but a pair of top-
fives allowed him to pull clear in
the EnduroGP championship,
which he now leads with 181
points ahead of Remes (153)
and Holcombe (148). Only two
stops remain on the Enduro
World Championship circuit,
with the GPs of Italy and France
still on the schedule.
American rider Taylor Robert
had a lackluster weekend in
Spain, with an 11th place on Sat-
urday and an eighth overall on
Sunday. Robert is currently tied
with Larrieu for seventh place in
points.
In the women's division, Laia
Sanz enjoyed a double-victory
on her home soil, and seems
to have found her stride in the
2016 championship. After taking
her first win of the season at the
previous round, Sanz dominated
nearly every test to take com-
fortable victories on both days in
Spain. CN
