MOTOCROSS LUCAS OIL AMA PRO MOTOCROSS CHAMPIONSHIP ROUND 4 / JUNE 18, 2016 HIGH POINT RACEWAY / MT. MORRIS, PENNSYLVANIA P72 Like everyone else, Ken Roczen was surprised to hear about Ryan Dung- ey's injury and pulling out for an indefi- nite time. "I was surprised," Roczen said. "I don't know how bad his injury is, and I know there is a lot of specula- tion. He did finish the race [Colorado] pretty solid and all of a sudden there's something wrong. I had a [back] injury last year that was super painful. You have to give the guy credit; he's pretty much done every single race for, I don't know, 10 years, and you don't want to see anybody get hurt. I hope he heals quickly. I haven't thought about it a lot." Despite having a massive points lead in the championship, Ken Roczen said that he actually didn't know how many points he led by. "I didn't even know, even coming into the race," he said. "I was curious, but I told myself that I wasn't going to check because nothing is going to change mentally and I don't want anything to change. It's great, though, because a lot of things can happen. I'm just going to keep riding and doing what I'm doing right now and going out for moto wins and overall wins, especially. I know that a lot of people are already saying that it's a done deal, and I hate it when people say that, but I can't control what other people say." Jason Anderson talked a little bit about dealing with altitude sickness at the last round. "It's something I've had issues with before," he said. "But I've been able to [in the past] salvage points and do motos and stuff like that. I did that, went home, then I went to Florida and the humidity, which I wasn't quite used to yet. I got a little cold since the last [race], but I felt pretty good today and felt pretty much recovered from everything. Marvin Musquin said it was an un- usual experience to be the only rider working out of the Red Bull KTM pits, without his teammate Ryan Dungey around. "It was different," Musquin said. "You think about the pressure, you're like, 'Man, there's two semis, 10 people, and they're all there for you. You better do good!' There is pressure but it's good pressure." Adding to the pressure was that his usual mechanic, Frankie Latham, did not attend the race for personal reasons and Musquin was utilizing a different mechanic; Ryan Dungey's brother, Jade. Musquin has worked with him before (at the MX of Nations) and said that overall it was a smooth weekend. Jordon Smith described the High Point track as being "gnarly." He said, "The track was so gnarly—by far the gnarliest track I've ever ridden. Last year, Thunder Valley after the rain, I thought those ruts were bad, but this was like the ruts of Thunder Valley combined with the bumpiest track I've ever rode. In the second moto, I was like dead last, and there were some sections that felt like a GNCC. It was just single track; [I was] all the way off to the side, just trying to find some sort of smooth line. It was definitely tough out there today." Even Ken Roczen said it was the toughest track of the year so far. Matt Bisceglia filled in again for the injured James Stewart and Blake Baggett on the Yoshimura Suzuki team. "It was a good first moto," Bisceglia said. "I fought hard and got 10th again. Unfortunately, the second moto, I got a good start, I was about 10th, but on the second lap, I came down the cor- ner rollers, swapped out and highsided and that ended my day right there. I tweaked the bike pretty bad; it was an unfortunate way to end the day." Soaring Eagle/Jimmy John's/RCH Suzuki's co-owner Ricky Carmichael was on-hand to see his rider, Ken Roc- zen, take the win at High Point. "We have to keep the momentum going," Carmichael said. "I expect a couple of guys to step up—Tomac, Barcia, guys of that nature – so it's not going to be easy. Anything can happen and they [the team] have to keep working hard." Honda HRC's Trey Canard did not compete at High Point after suffering an injury while training during the week (June 13) at home in Oklahoma. Ac- cording to the team, Canard suffered a "bulging disc" in his back "and his condition will be assessed on a week- ly basis in order to determine when he returns to racing." Team manager Dan Betley said, "We're confident that he'll be back in action sooner than later, but at this point we're just going to evaluate things each week." High Point Notes: Colt Nichols fin- ished in the top 10 for the first time in his career with a seventh overall (13- 6)… The U.S. Anti-Doping Agency (USADA) showed up at High Point tak- ing both blood tests and urine samples from many of the riders, including Ken Roczen and Cooper Webb… Honda HRC's Cole Seely had an untimely fall while running inside the top five with a few laps left in the first 450MX moto; he went 9-6 for ninth overall… TLD/ KTM's Jessy Nelson, Alex Frye and Justin Hill did not race due to injuries.
