MARC FREIXA SWEEPS OREGON
MOTOTRIALS
Marc Freixa had expressed
frustration at the level of difficulty
of the first four rounds of the
SWM US National Championship
MotoTrials Series in Florida and
Tennessee, which the Spaniard
found too easy. At rounds five
and six in Tillamook, Oregon,
June 18-19, the Montesa/Honda
USA rider got just what he was
looking for.
Rain in the Tillamook area
leading up to the event made
the moss-covered rocks and
logs of the Diamond Mill OHV
Area treacherous and extremely
slippery. Though eight-time US
MotoTrials Champion Pat Smage
challenged Freixa early on,
especially on Sunday, the Team
RYP Sherco rider was not able
to match his performances in
Florida and Tennessee, where
he split wins at each of the two-
day events with Freixa. Freixa
was able to walk away with two
clear victories, putting him at
the top of the series standings
heading into next week's finale in
Colorado.
On Saturday the sections
featured big rocks and massive
logs, and though he readily ad-
mits this type of terrain is not his
cup of tea, Smage took the early
advantage when he completed
section two with a one-point ride
while Freixa took a three. It was
all Freixa from there, though,
