"I tell my son now: 'Stay off the rear wheel.'"
TV Kudos
I want to give a shout out to
MotoAmerica's TV coverage.
Huge improvement from last
year, although there is still room
to grow, for sure.
The racing at the front in
Superbike is top-notch, as are
Superstock and the rest of the
support classes.
The only thing really missing
is more factory involvement. If
the U.S. market is the larg-
est, and in their own words,
the most important market in
terms of sportbike sales, then
why isn't Honda, Kawasaki,
Ducati, etc., fielding a fac-
tory team in AMA road racing?
Most factories left the AMA
when the Daytona Motorsports
Group took over the reigns of
AMA road racing because of
their ridiculous attitude and
rules structure. Now that AMA
road racing is on the road to
recovery, where are the factory
teams?
Factory involvement and
money will elevate the Moto-
America series back to world-
class status, and put USA road
racers back to where we be-
long—at the top of the podium
in MotoGP and WorldSBK. I
sincerely hope that they (the
factories) are considering a
return to the AMA. It will be a
difficult climb to the top without
them.

When I first heard BEin was
handling MotoGP, WorldSBK
and MotoAmerica, I said who?
Wow. Last Sunday was epic.
They are doing a great job. It
is good to see our homegrown
guys (and girls) again. The pro-
duction value is fantastic.
Hopefully BEin will get
picked up by more providers,
letting more fans in.

Wheelie!?
Why is it that we all have to see
bikes on the rear wheel show-
ing speed? (Cycle News cover,
issue 22). That's not what
loving motorcycles is all about,
or is it?
I was raised a dirt track rider,
as well as TT, scrambles and
road racing. Never, never was
getting on the rear wheel more
than just slowing you down,
showing off, or just being a
show-off in general. I passed
a guy [who was] on the rear
wheel for the win because he
slowed down to show off!
I'm a road racer and a flat
track racer; I tell my son now:
"Stay off the rear wheel.
It only slows you down!"

Met him at Mosport one rainy
road race day. He could do
such amazing things with his
bike. We couldn't believe what
we were seeing.
