Qualifying for MotoAmerica saw
previous championship leader
Josh Hayes (Monster Energy/
Graves/Yamaha YZF-R1) stick it
on pole position to head Yoshi-
mura Suzuki Factory Racing's
Toni Elias and Hayes' teammate
Cameron Beaubier with Elias'
teammate Roger Hayden fourth.
The monster 4.048-mile course
saw the top four separated by
just 2.449 seconds in wet condi-
tions, boding well for a tight two
battles come Sunday.
And that's exactly what we got.
With the sunshine out and the
track in good condition, Hayes
took the holeshot, but on lap
seven, ran off the track, forcing
the veteran to work his way back
up the field. He eventually caught
Superbike/Superstock 1000
