MOTOCROSS LUCAS OIL AMA PRO MOTOCROSS CHAMPIONSHIP ROUND 3 / JUNE 4, 2016 LAKEWOOD, COLORADO / THUNDER VALLEY RACEWAY P60 214 AUSTIN FORKNER 250MX 9TH O/A (17-4) Rookie Austin Forkner continues to ride like a vet in the 250MX class and might've finished out the day in the top-five had he not slid out then been slammed into by multiple riders. "The first moto I had a good start," said the Monster Energy Pro Circuit Kawasaki Team rider. "Unfortunately the track was really slick in one particular corner and I tucked the front. When I remounted three other riders hit me, one after the other. By the time I finally rejoined the race I was nearly last and spent the whole moto climbing my way back up and finished 17th. In the second moto I had another good start and around halfway I started to feel really good. I passed my way into fifth and continued to push forward. I gave it my all for the second half and on the last lap I made another pass, crossed the line fourth and [finished] ninth overall." 66 ARNAUD TONUS 250MX 13TH O/A (18-9) Monster Energy Pro Circuit Kawasaki's Arnaud Tonus contin- ues to race back into shape after an illness prevented him from competing in most of the supercross series. A first-moto fall didn't help his day any, but overall, the Swiss rider rode well in Colorado. "I rode a little tight in practice," Tonus said. "In the first moto I was a able to ride better but tangled up with Forkner in the early stages of the race and unfortunately rejoined pretty far back. I did the best I could, found my rhythm to- wards the end and raced my way into 17th. In the second moto I had a good start, spent most of the race able to do good laps and to focus on riding my own race. I'm feeling a lot better, I'm happy with my results today and I'm look- ing forward to the next one." 1 RYAN DUNGEY 450MX 2ND O/A (2-4) Defending champ Ryan Dungey suffered a rare fall and is still trying to figure out what to do about the super-hot Ken Roczen right now. "Overall it was a good day," Dung- ey said. "We got good starts in both motos. In the first moto we got into second and just tried to maintain that. I felt good going into the second moto. The ruts are really tough in Colorado, I was just trying to focus on good lines and making them stick. I was up front and trying to go for the lead and my front wheel popped out of the rut and once it hit the soft dirt it just tucked the front end. We got up and just tried to pass as many guys as we could. I got up to fourth and wasn't able to catch [Cole] Seely [for third], but all things considered it was pretty good." 25 MARVIN MUSQUIN 450MX 14TH O/A (37-5) There were some highs and lows for Red Bull KTM's Marvin Musquin. The Frenchman didn't get the best start in the first moto and ended up in the fence and eventually pulled out of the race. In the second moto, he started off eighth and ended up fifth. "The first moto didn't go as planned so I knew I had to regroup in the second moto," Musquin said. "I had a good start even though I started way outside. The first few laps were slow, but as soon as Ryan got around me after his crash, I wanted to follow him and get good lines and good flow. I was following him just like practice and that was good for the confidence. It was my first time in the top five in the 450MX class and that's the goal every week." 3 ELI TOMAC 450MX 3RD O/A (5-2) Eli Tomac was hoping to get back to his win- ning ways in his home state but, once again, bad starts prevented that from happening. He was 17th and 13th after the first lap of both motos. However, he rode well to go 5-2. "Today didn't quite go as planned," said Tomac. "We started the day on top with the fastest time in qualifying but when it came time to race, our starts weren't where we wanted them to be. I managed to find smooth lines and stay on two wheels all day to finish on the podium for the third straight week, so I'll take that and move to the next round focused on the main goal of the top step of the podium."
