Smith's points lead has now
grown to 16 over Halbert with
Mees another six points back.
In two weeks the series moves
to Oklahoma City for it's last Mile
race until returning to Springfield
in September.
GNC 2
What the GNC 2 riders lack in
experience they more than make
up in spirit. The race is much
less a "chess match" and more
of a "street brawl".
Almost all of the 18 riders were
there, that's the biggest thing."
With the leaders checking
out, there was another six-rider
gaggle fighting over seventh
place. Sammy Halbert (Briggs-
Auto.com), Jake Johnson
(Zanotti Racing), Jeffrey Carver
(Carver's BBQ), Jeremy Higgins
(Higgins Racing), Davis Fisher
(Harley-Davidson Motor Com-
pany) and Zakk Palmer (Palmer
Racing) were swapping positions
all around the track.
When the checkered flag fell,
it was Higgins holding seventh
over Fisher on the new XG750R
Harley-Davidson, Halbert,
Carver, Johnson and Palmer.
The race got off to a rough
start, as the lead pack dived into
turn one at the start of lap two.
Stevie Bonsey came out on the
short end of contact with Baker
as he crashed heavily into the
hay bales. "Hopefully Stevie is
okay," said Baker. "I got into him
drafting and I didn't see the five-
lap board," said Coolbeth. "That
kind of screwed me up. All of a
sudden I saw the white flag. I
ran it off in there and tried to get
up as far as I could, because I
could run the high line going into
turn one, but not down there. All
in all it was good. From the heat
race struggling with front-end
stuff and then to end where we
did, I'm happy with it. We were
Ryan Wells went on to win the GNC 2 Main over Stollings.
