IN THE WIND P40 HONDA RFV1000 FOR 2018 RUMORED T he Japanese rumor mill is hitting another gear with word Honda's long anticipated RFV1000 will be- come production reality in 2018. Patents filed by Honda reveal the new machine will be graced with the RC213V-S V4 MotoGP replica engine in a Ducati Panigale-style monocoque cast aluminum chassis. The launch date of 2018 is sig- nificant because it will be the Honda Motor Company's 70 th anniversary. This does not affect the new Honda CBR1000RR Fireblade that is sched- uled for 2017, a machine that is expected to receive a massive array of electronic upgrades, more horse- power and an entirely new look. Like the last RFV, the RC45, this new RFV1000 is expected to be made in very small numbers—expect around 500—so it can be homolo- gated for WorldSBK competition. CN The RC213V-S is expected to donate a significant portion of the new RFV's DNA.
