MOTOCROSS LUCAS OIL AMA PRO MOTOCROSS CHAMPIONSHIP ROUND 2 / MAY 28, 2016 SAN BERNARDINO, CALIFORNIA / GLEN HELEN RACEWAY P54 250MX MARTIN TAKES OVER (Not that one, the other one) The fact that Alex Martin is lead- ing the points after two rounds of racing is big news. There are not a lot of pundits who would've been bold enough to predict such a thing prior to the start of the series. Even bigger, though, for those "in the know" is the relative dominance of the entire Yamalube/Star Racing Yamaha squad on their apparently very, very fast YZ250Fs. Monster Energy/Pro Circuit Kawasaki's Joey Savatgy was dominant at Hangtown for round one, winning both mo- tos, but the Star team filled out the rest of the top five on the day, with Alex Martin, Cooper Webb, Aaron Plessinger, and defending champ Jeremy Mar- tin doing work. They stepped it up another notch at Glen Helen, not only repeating with four of the top five spots overall, but sweeping the overall podium as well. This is the kind of dominance that only one 250cc team in his- tory has ever really shown, and that team is the one team getting in the middle of this train of blue machines at both of the first two rounds—Monster Energy/Pro Circuit Kawasaki. At Glen Helen, though, it wasn't Savatgy who got up in the middle of the Blue Crew, but rather rookie Austin Forkner. Forkner had an incred- ible day at Glen Helen with a 3-5 score for fourth overall, but with the dominance of the Star squad, his amazing rookie ride quickly became a footnote of the event. Alex Martin grabbed the early lead in moto one and led nearly the entire thing before his team- mate Cooper Webb, who, as of the Las Vegas Supercross, wasn't even going to be racing outdoors because of a fractured scaphoid in his left wrist—chased him down late in the moto and stole the victory away. Alex Mar- tin easily could've ended up third in the moto, but about halfway
