JARVIS TAKES ERZBERG
HARE SCRAMBLES WIN

raham Jarvis rode his
Husqvarna to the win at
the 22nd running of the Erz-
berg Hare Scrambles in Aus-
tria, May 30. The British rider
completed the course in just
under two hours and 20 min-
utes, nearly 30 minutes ahead
of American Cody Webb. Webb
(FMF KTM) had a back-and-
forth battle with Spain's Alfredo
Gomez, eventually finishing
third, just three minutes back.
Jarvis rode a conservative
qualifying prologue to take the
26th position, which led to a
starting position outside the top
10. But he methodically worked
his way through the field to take
the lead about 30 minutes into
the event and then slowly pulled
away from the rest of the field.
Webb took over the lead early
in the event but had difficulties
and dropped back several posi-
tions. He then worked his way
back to the front of the pack
where he battled with Gomez.
Second place was secured on
the last difficult climb, as Gomez
was forced to make a second
attempt and Webb took the
position.
Taddy Blazusiak, a five-time
Erzberg winner, took the early
lead and bat-
tled among
the top three
until he had
some difficul-
ties and broke
his brake
lever, which held him back to an
eighth-place finish.
Spain's Mario Roman took
fourth position, 22 minutes back
from Gomez. Eighteen year-old
Billy Bolt started from the sec-
ond row among the 500 starters
and worked through the field to
finish fifth.
Several other American riders
attempted the event including
Colton Haaker, Kyle Redmond,
Max Gerston, Keith Curtis and
Hunter Neuwirth, but were un-
able to finish within the four-hour
time limit. CN
