50 Years Ago June 2, 1966
The main story in our latest 12-page issue of Cycle News 50 years ago was the
Benefit Run for Antelope Ramblers member Ronnie Nelson. The scrambles
was held at Prado Park in California over the Memorial Day Weekend and drew
approximately 300 racers… We covered Sammy Tanner's victory at the 5-Mile
National Dirt Track Championship at Elkhorn, Wisconsin… Larry Haley shared
his experience of competing in the Greenhorn Enduro in the Mojave Desert.
40 Years Ago June 1, 1976
We got a wee-bit artsy with our cover 30 years ago. It was a heavily modified
photo taken of the 125cc Intermediate class at Carlsbad Raceway during the
ABC/Bell All-Junior Day Motocross… Hank Scott was all smiles after winning
the AMA Grand National Championship/Camel Pro Series Mid-America Half
Mile at Oklahoma City. Ted Boody finish second… In Fogelsville, Pennsylvania,
Jimmy Weinert and Tony DiStefano split moto wins a the 250cc AMA National
Motocross at Pennsylvania MX Park… We covered Martin Lampkin's win at the
Scottish Six Days Trials.
20 Years Ago May 29, 1996
Miguel DuHamel leading Doug Chandler at the first-ever AMA Superbike
National held at the Homestead Motorsports Complex was featured on
the cover 20 years ago. DuHamel came out on top. Also sharing a spot on
the cover was the Mile High Stadium podium from the Denver Supercross
final event. Jeremy McGrath won the race but had already sewn up the
title… We covered Scott Summers' win at a muddy Brownsville GNCC
in Pennsylvania… Sebastien Tortelli won the 125cc Dutch Grand Prix
Motocross… Doug Lampkin won the Scottish Six Day Trial.

30 Years Ago June 4, 1986
A Henny Ray Abrams photo of Eddie Lawson made the cover after the
Team Marlboro Yamaha rider won the Italian Grand Prix and took over the
championship points lead… Ricky Graham won what ended up being, at the
time, the fastest-ever mile race when he crossed the finish line out in front at
the Springfield Mile… Rick Johnson won the 250 class and Micky Dymond
the 125 class at the High Point Raceway National Motocross in Mt. Morris,
Pennsylvania… We were on hand to witness
Can-Am's Johnny Martin take the overall victory
at the Michigan ISDE Two-Day Qualifier.
