FIM MOTOGP WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP
ROUND 6 / MAY 22, 2016
AUTODROMO DEL MUGELLO / TUSCANY, ITALY
P84
Shortly before one-third
distance, Dani Pedrosa (Repsol
Honda), who was in his 250th GP
start, was picking up pace as the
fuel load lightened and he picked
off Espargaro's Suzuki. At the
same time, Dovizioso had closed
on Marquez and was once briefly
ahead. But the fastest on the
track was his teammate Iannone,
charging through the midfield.
As Dovi lost touch with Marquez,
Iannone was past Pedrosa, and
the pair was closing fast on the
Ducati.
With six laps to go, the trio was
closely engaged. Iannone got
ahead, Dovi fought back and then
ran wide into the first corner. The
then expired in a white cloud.
"It's a great shame," he said.
"I was feeling comfortable, and I
think I could have fought for vic-
tory."
Marquez was pushing hard,
up to within a 10th on lap 15. But
again Lorenzo seemed impreg-
nable, and he drew marginally
clear again.
But it wasn't over, and in the
last two laps, Marquez was
attacking hard, pushing past,
only for Lorenzo to get him back
promptly. Both said after the race
that they were prepared to settle
for second, but it didn't show. It
was only in the final yards that the
matter was settled.
