DESTRY ABBOTT DIAGNOSED WITH LEUKEMIA
O
n Tuesday, May 17,
off-road racing legend
Destry Abbott shocked the
motorcycling community with
word that he had just been
diagnosed with leukemia. The
five-time Best In The Des-
ert Champion and five-time
AMA National Hare & Hound
Champion is one of the most
respected and well-liked rid-
ers in off-road, and a hero to
many young off-road racers
who train at his DA8 Training
Facility in Peoria, Arizona.
Abbott broke the news via
social media explaining, "I
haven't been feeling good
lately and was hurting pretty
bad on Sunday. [I] went to
the hospital and have been
here since. It turns out I have
leukemia and will be starting
treatment ASAP."
Abbott reported he hadn't
been feeling well for several
months and was lacking en-
ergy and found himself unable
to complete races. Abbott was
recently at the Orofino Log-
gercross event in Idaho (May
14) where he wasn't feeling
well and was unable to com-
pete. Upon returning home,
he went straight from the
airport to the hospital where
he was diagnosed with acute
lymphocytic leukemia.
