ALL OVER THE PLACE
Savatgy was determined to start
off the series on a winning note.
He showed everyone that he
was serious about that by being
the top 250MX-class qualifier
and blew everyone away in the
first 250 moto, scoring a wire-to-
wire win, while letting everyone
else battle all over the place for
the scraps. His second-moto
victory didn't come as easily,
though, as he had to chase
down a flying Jessy Nelson for
the first 11 laps before wearing
him down and taking the lead.
"I followed Jessy for a long
time; he had some better lines
than me, but I was able to pick
those up to where I was able
to make a move," said Savatgy.
"Once I got around him, I was
able to throw my tear-offs off,
had clean vision and there was
no more roost. I was then able
to focus on my own race and my
lap times."
Savatgy felt a little pressure
from Alex Martin at the end, but
the Monster Energy/Pro Circuit/
Kawasaki Team rider wouldn't be
denied a clean sweep.
"I hate the first round so
much because there's so many
unknowns," Savatgy said of his
day. "You feel good, but you
don't know where you're go-
ing to be until the gate drops.
We started the day off good
in practice and then got the
holeshot and led every lap of
the first moto. We got another
good start in the second moto
Double-moto winner
Joey Savatgy (37)
nabbed the holeshot in
the first 250MX moto.
