orried? Probably not,
but Ryan Dungey
should be at least a
little bit concerned about the
surging Ken Roczen. Dipping
back into supercross, Roczen is
carrying a lot of momentum right
now after having won the third-
and second-to-last rounds of the
supercross series, and having
passed Dungey for the lead just
before crashing out of the Las
Vegas final a couple weeks ago.
And now, in what is probably
Roczen's strongest genre of
racing—motocross—the former
GP star flat out dominated both
motos at Hangtown, at one
point, passing Dungey in the
process to open the 2016 Lucas
Oil Pro Motocross Champion-
ship. Keep in mind that Roczen
is also former MX2 World Cham-
pion and the 2014 AMA 450MX
Champion (last year Roczen
started off the season with a
back injury but still finished off
the year in second), so no one
would blame the defending
champ, Dungey, for being at
least a little bit concerned right
now about retaining that num-
ber-one plate, even if the series
is just getting underway.
In the 250MX class, another
rider dominated both motos, but
it was not two-time defending
champ Jeremy Martin; instead,
it was Georgia's Joey Savatgy
who came out swinging at
Hangtown, leading all 17 laps
of the first moto and the last six
laps of the second moto.
A Martin did get second,
but it wasn't Jeremy Martin, it
was his older brother Alex who
headed a quartet of Yamalube/
Star Racing Yamaha Team rid-
ers at the top of the charts.
Cole Seely (14) grabbed the holeshot in the first 450MX moto.
