ROAD RACE ROUND 4 / MAY 15, 2016 ALTON, VIRGINIA / VIRGINIA INTERNATIONAL RACEWAY P62 MOTOAMERICA AMA/FIM NORTH AMERICAN ROAD RACING CHAMPIONSHIP KTM RC CUP One way to cel- ebrate turning 16 is to decimate the best RC Cup racers in the country with a double win and championship lead, and that's exactly what Anthony Mazzi- otto III did at VIR. Mazziotto took pole position at the tight and twisting circuit and quickly jumped to the front in race one but he had plenty of company from established front-runners Ashton Yates and Brandon Paasch. Yates, Paasch and Mazziotto passed the lead position back and forth several times throughout the 13-lap race, with each rider tak- ing his turn at the front before Anthony took the win by 0.521 from Yates with Alejandro Gutier- rez finishing third. For race two it was Brandon Altmeyer who took the holeshot but crashed out before the end of lap one, leaving Mazziotto to inherit the lead from Yates, with Brandon Paasch and Jody Barry close in tow. By lap 12 it was all over as a red flag was called due to a crash further back in the pack, leaving Mazziotto the win- ner from Paasch and Yates. I just put down some really hard laps and hoped that the other guys wouldn't catch up to me but I knew in the back of my head that they would," Mazziotto said. "It was a good weekend, I like this track, it's really physical and I like tracks with a lot more turns." With two wins behind him, Paasch now sits five points back in second. With his third podium in the last two rounds, Yates makes a jump up to fourth over- all in the standings. "This weekend went pretty awesome for me," Yates said. "It's too bad the race had to end early but that's just how it is sometimes. I'll take the points and look forward to Road America in a few weeks." Mazziotto leads the points on 128 from Paasch on 123 and Barry third on 84. CN KTM RC Cup Race One 1. Anthony Mazziotto III (KTM) 2. Ashton Yates (KTM) 3. Alejandro Gutierrez (KTM) 4.
