Even though he was leading
the championship coming into
round four, Josh Hayes knew he
had to get a win on the board
to truly register his name in the
2016 MotoAmerica title fight.
And he didn't make it easy on
himself, with an off-track excur-
sion thanks to a slowing Josh
Herrin and Claudio Corti while
on his hot lap with his qualifying
tire dropping him to 10th on the
grid for both races. His body lan-
guage coming into the pits was
one of total rage, yet the veteran
turned it around in dogged style,
taking the race-one win after a
chaotic series of events at the
front starting when Beaubier
was caught and passed by the
Meen Yamaha Superstock 1000
machine of Josh Herrin. Herrin
didn't last long at the front and
laid the model down after get-
ting hit by Roger Hayden, and
not long after, Beaubier ran off
track, handing the chocolates to
Hayes and another increase in
the title lead.
"Last year, I won more than
half of the races in the season,"
Hayes replied when asked to
comment on going six races
without a victory. "And, after not
winning any of the first six races
this year, well, let me just say
this, it feels really good to get
this win, and I hope there are
more to come."
