CHAMPIONSHIP
VOL. 53 ISSUE 19 MAY 17, 2016 P57
111, 26 behind Hayes.
"The position was the same as
before," Elias said of his second
third-place finish. "But before I
wasn't satisfied, but now I'm re-
ally satisfied with this position."
The Superstock 1000 class
was a battle between TOBC's
Danny Eslick, Fong and Her-
rin, with Eslick registering his
first win of the season and first
in the Superstock 1000 class
the weekend after he returned
from a one-off ride in the Moto2
World Championship at the
French GP.
Race-one winner Corti fin-
ished an uncharacteristic eighth
in class and 12th overall, but
still leads the points on 83 with
Bobby Fong and Herrin tied for
second on 63.

aspirations while also scoring
the psychological points of a
last lap victory over the man he
shares the garage with.
"This race win definitely feels
good," Cameron said. "I'm glad to
get this redemption after running
off the track in the first race. The
track [at VIR] is really technical,
and it's easy to make a mistake
here. It's great to have two Mon-
ster Energy/Graves Yamaha R1s
in first and second. I know that
this is one of Josh's best tracks,
so it's not easy to beat him here.
I'm happy to be able to give this
win to my crew after how things
went in race one."
Hayes was philosophical
in defeat, knowing he almost
pulled a perfect day considering
the horrors of qualifying.
"I'm pretty happy with my
race," the veteran said. "I was
really patient in the beginning,
and I was behind quite a few
guys. I just took my time, and I
was waiting for my opportunities.
Those guys [at the front] seemed
to be racing really hard and mov-
ing around a lot.
"So, once I got into the lead,
I was pretty comfortable. Toni
[Elias] got past me, but it took a
lot for him to do it, so I felt like
I could get back around him,
which I did. On the final lap, I
left the door open a little bit, and
Cameron capitalized on it."
Elias was happy to take another
third with Hayden relegated to
fourth. His podium position means
the former runaway title leader
now sits fourth in the standings on
his points lead yet further until
teammate Beaubier launched an
attack on the final lap to take the
win by just 0.151 seconds. Elias
was third again but this time only
two seconds behind compared
to the eight of race one.
It was a redemption ride from
the current AMA number one, as
he limited the damage to his title
