VOL. 53 ISSUE 19 MAY 17, 2016 P27 MOTO JOURNALIST ROB HARRIS KILLED R ob Harris, founder of CanadaMotoGuide.com, died on Saturday, May 14, following a motorcycle accident that involved a collision with another vehicle. Harris, a former motorcycle mechanic originally from Yorkshire, England, began his career in Cana- dian motorcycle media in 1996 by publishing a pamphlet-sized newsletter out of Toronto, Canada called Ontario Motorcycle Guide. In 1998 he switched to publishing online, and through tireless work and a fervent passion for motorcycles, he grew CMG Online into the biggest Canadian motorcycle website. Harris first came to Canada in 1991, where he lived in Toronto before moving to Montreal, and finally settling down in Sackville New Brunswick, from where he ran the website. He also founded the biennial Mad Bastard scooter rally, as well as more recently the Fundy Adventure Rally. He leaves behind his life partner, Courtney Hay, and daughters Chloe and Cate. The Canadian motorcycling community has lost a powerful, and often entertaining ambassador, and he will be missed. Cosa Mouzouris SPEEDBRAIN AND HERO MOTOCORP JOIN FORCES S peedbrain GmbH, the German-based off-road racing team is back in the rally racing game, having recently announced it has formed a strategic alliance with Hero MotoCorp Ltd. The newly formed "Hero Moto- Sports Team Rally" will make its debut at the Merzouga Rally in Morocco later this month, with the ultimate goal of taking on the Dakar Rally 2017. C.S. Santosh and Joaquim Rodrigues will be the star riders of the Hero MotoSports Team Rally with Managing Director Wolfgang Fischer continuing to lead the way for Speedbrain. "After several successful years in the rally raid sport, we have collected tons of experience and creating a very specialized, motivated and loyal race team with the conceptual skills on how to build an efficient and competitive bike," said Fischer. "We are more than happy to form a new strategic partnership with Hero MotoCorp to real- ize our common vision for the future." The team will also be under the direct supervi- sion of Dr. Markus Braunsperger, CTO of Hero MotoCorp, and his team at the Hero Centre of Innovation and Technology. They will be assist- ing in the testing and develop- ment of new Hero vehicle con- cepts. "Hero products are known for their robustness, reliability and quality," Braunsperger said. "It is therefore a logical step for us to engage in inter- national Rally Sports—which is the ultimate proving ground for any product and its components. In Speedbrain we have a very professional and tech- nologically capable partner and we look forward to a fruitful journey together."
