O
ne thing you rarely
think to prepare
for in Las Vegas,
Nevada, is rain. After all,
it's a desert for a reason.
Normally, the Monster
Energy AMA Supercross
Series finale sees tempera-
tures anywhere from the
high 80s to the low 100s,
but although the day started
on the warm side, it wasn't
long before a dark gray ceil-
ing rolled over Sam Boyd
Stadium for the final round
of the 2016 Monster Energy
AMA Supercross Series.
Just at the end of the first
timed 450cc Group A
practice session, the skies
opened up. In a matter of
about 30 minutes, the im-
maculately prepared racing
surface was turned into a
quagmire. And that led to
some of the most exciting,
and dangerous, racing of
the year.
When all was said an
done, though, the cham-
pionship leaders of the
250SX East (Malcolm
Stewart) and West (Coo-
per Webb) Championships
hung on to win the 2016
titles in their respective
divisions, while recently
crowned 450SX champ
Ryan Dungey went about
his business and recorded
his career-best single-sea-
son ninth SX win.
