Yes, Dungey set a new record
with his first-ever successful
championship defense, but
there's another record he set
this year, and that streak officially
ended in New Jersey. Prior to
New Jersey, Dungey had scored
podium finishes in 31 consecu-
tive 450SX main events. The pre-
vious record was Chad Reed at
28. The last time Dungey failed
to stand on the podium at the
conclusion of a 450cc main was
round one in 2015, where—like
in New Jersey—he finished one
spot off of the podium in fourth
place.
The record for most consecu-
tive supercross podium finishes
now sits officially at 31, and this
means the new longest active
podium streak belongs to RCH
Suzuki's Ken Roczen at five, with
three consecutive second-place
finishes and two consecutive wins.
If things continue as they are
in Las Vegas this coming week-
end, that number should jump
to six prior to the start of the
outdoor season. And if Roczen
stays healthy, it would take him
until past halfway through the
2018 Supercross Series to move
the mark past Dungey's.
Sure, it sounds far-fetched,
but it would've sounded that
way about Dungey's or Reed's
streaks prior to them actually
happening. If he stays healthy,
it's a safe bet that Roczen will
remain a tremendous force for
many years in AMA SX and Pro
Motocross. CN
Dungey's
podium streak
came to a halt
at MetLife
Stadium, but is
Roczen's just
getting started?
He's currently at
five, including
his two most
recent wins.
