IN THE WIND P28 BILL PROPOSES TRAIL CLOSURE A ccording to the AMA, U.S. Rep. Mark Amodei (R- Nev.) introduced H.R. 2733, the Nevada Native Nations Land Act, which would transfer thousands of acres in Nevada from the management of the Bureau of Land Management to the Bureau of Indian Affairs. This transfer would make the land off-limits to off-highway-vehicle riders in parts of the BLM-man- aged Hungry Valley Recreation Area (popularly known as Moon Rocks) northeast of Reno. This bill is to be considered on the House floor soon. We need your help to stop H.R. 2733 in its tracks. CN HELMET LAW REMAINS IN LOUISIANA I n Louisiana, a bill to repeal the state's man- datory motorcycle helmet law failed in the House. To pass the House, the bill needed 53 affirmative votes, but received just 49. Opponents of the bill argued that it would result in more deaths and create liability problems for motorists involved in crashes with motorcyclists. Under current law, all riders and passengers must wear a helmet. The bill would have allowed those 21 or older to choose whether to wear a helmet while riding. CN
