The field was relatively spread
out, and Fabio Quartaro (Leop-
ard KTM) had come through,
bringing Brad Binder's Red Bull
KTM with him. They caught
Quartaro by half distance and
the Frenchman nipped ahead
directly.
Binder dropped a couple of
seconds behind, blaming bad
front-end chatter; Oettl stayed
with the Frenchman and seemed
to have a first rostrum in his
pocket when Quartaro suddenly
slowed with a gearshift malady.
But the South African was
waiting for his opportunity and

Rain-hit qualifying shuffled the
grid, giving Phillip Oettl (Schedl
KTM) a maiden pole, and putting
title contender Niccolo Antonelli
(Rivacold Honda) down in 30th.
But it was second qualifier Jorge
Navarro seizing the lead from the
start, and putting up a convinc-
ing attempt at a runaway—his
lead approaching two seconds
after just three laps.
By now, Romano Fenati (SKY
VR46 KTM) had taken second
from Oettl, and he started to
hunt down the EG Honda.
Navarro made his pass easy,
running wide into the tight turn
one at the start of lap eight. The
Spaniard stayed close, until the
same error lost him more than a
Winner Romano Fenati had room to spare in Moto3.
