IN THE WIND P38 GAJSER, HERLINGS STRIKE GOLD IN ARGENTINA T he FIM Motocross World Championship made the trek to South America, April 9-10, where the loamy Patagonia circuit offered a scenic, albeit arduous setting for the fourth round of the series. Honda Gariboldi's Tim Gajser took his second MXGP win of the season with a slim victory over Antonio Cairoli, while Red Bull KTM's Jeffrey Herlings continued to dominate the MX2 division. Everything seemed to line up well for Gajser who took quite well to the wide, sweeping course at Argentina's Villa la An- gostura. After a third-place finish in the opening MXGP race, he sailed to victory in the second race, earning the overall GP win. Red Bull KTM's Antonio Cairo- li showed he is returning to form with a strong 2-2 finish in Argen- tina. It marked the first podium finish for the former champion since May of 2015. "I'm not yet at my best," Cairoli admitted, "but I have to make the best of it. I am happy with my riding although I have to ride different to what I am used to because I feel not strong enough in some places. But it's getting better and better." Max Nagl rounded out the MXGP podium in third place. The Rockstar Energy Husqvarna rider celebrated his first race win of the season in the opening race, and followed it up with fifth place in the second. "I am a little bit disappointed because I could have won this GP, but I backed off and the Yamaha guys passed me. But third place is better than a DNF, so I am happy." The "Yamaha guys" were teammates Romain Febvre and Jeremy Van Horebeek, who took third and fourth in the second race, respectively. For Febvre, it was his best finish of the day af- ter carding a sub-par sixth in the first race. A series of crashes in Patagonia made things tough for the defending champion, but he still holds on to the red plate, now only three points ahead of Gajser in the points chase. In the MX2 division, Jeffrey Herlings remains unstoppable. After celebrating his 50th career GP win at the previous round, the Red Bull KTM rider celebrat- ed an astounding 100th race win in Argentina. Behind him, the race for second was a brutal one, as Team Suzuki World rider Jeremy Seewer banged bars with Alex- ander Tonkov and Max Anstie. But Seewer took runner-up honors with his 4-2 finish leaving Tonkov to finish third. Herlings' closest championship rival Pauls Jonass took a dive in points after a big get-off in the first race and subsequent DNF. The Red Bull KTM rider came back to finish fourth in the second race, but slipped from second to fourth in overall standings. CN Is Red Bull KTM's MX2 star Jeffrey Herlings unstoppable?
