Half-Mile racing kicked off at Ascot Park and Sammy Tanner picked up where
he left off last season—winning! He made front-page news of Cycle News 50
years ago… We also featured motocross racing from Sycamore Park in Irvine,
California. Paul Hunt, riding his Triumph, was one of the big winners… The
Barstow Stake Scrambles got our full attention in the issue, as well.

Our massive eight-bike 250cc off-road shootout was our feature story 20
years ago. Our favorite bike? The CRE 250 Enduro. Remember that one?
The Italy/Japan hybrid was a CRE Import-kitted CR250R that you could
buy ready-to-race right from U.S. importer Kevin Hines… Jeremy McGrath
continued his perfect season at the Dallas Supercross, round nine of the
series… Ricky Carmichael was the talk of the town at Lake Whitney GNC…
We previewed the upcoming Road Race Grand Prix Championship. We were
high on Australians Mick Doohan and Daryl Beatie.
