CN III VOICES L E T T E R S T O T H E E D I T O R "It was Mrs. Jones who decided to take red, white and blue football jerseys and sew them into motocross jerseys" Daytona 200 Congrats to Mr. Barnes for winning the Daytona 200! I watched with excitement and was rewarded with a great race. Hats off to ASRA/CCS for a well-organized event. It was my first time attending the 200 since 2004. Is it the same? No, of course not, but I will be back to watch again. To anyone thinking it was a "second-class" event, step up and give it a try. Allen Matlock The Color Of Racing I greatly enjoyed the article "The Color of Racing" (Ar- chives, Issue 11). I believe the author of the article is mistaken regarding the "red, white and blue" color scheme of the Honda American motocross team in the 1970s— the red, white and blue jerseys were not inspired by European racing or GP racing. Honda signed Gary and Duane Jones as racers af- ter their contracts were not renewed with Yamaha. As part of the team, Honda got their parents as well. Everyone is aware that Don Jones was the mad inventor (Malcolm Smith's terminology) that figured out how to make the Honda El- sinore faster. However, it was Mrs. Jones who decided to take red, white and blue football jerseys and sew them into motocross jerseys. It was her idea to make the Honda team more American. Dale E. Stevens Dungey Wins Detroit Supercross—Not! Bolshevik on FIM's two-place penalty to Ryan Dungey. I'm re- ally disappointed with that call. I hope the KTM team sends FIM a protest on that lame, limp- flag waggin'-event stinker. They should have called Weimer for blocking Dungey. James "Bonecrusher" Smith Proper flagging would have made this a non-issue. Mitch Berger I consider your magazine very up to date and accurate. However, I saw no mention that AMA Supercross Director Kevin Crowther was replaced by Roger Goodell. Frank Sammis Roger DeCoster said it best and truthfully. Dungey did not see the flag until too late; the flag man was on the inside of the corner. The rule is that the rear wheel can't leave ground; in that case, several riders violated that, including Ander- son and Musquin, Brayton and a couple others. You can't just chop throttle when getting ready to launch a double no matter how big—it can have dire consequences. These rulings are getting more and more stupid. Review it and see if anyone got endan- gered. I saw Dungey look back when he caught the flag from corner of his vision. The flag man then moved about three steps out for other riders, and they were coming on a much tighter line also. Tim Roberson I think it's a shame to lose like that, especially with a lead like he had. I mean [Dungey] could have crawled over that jump and still won, but I guess a rule is a rule.
