EPIC WIN FOR FEBVRE IN VALKENSWAARD
R
omain Febvre went to the
trouble of regaining the
red plate at the previous round
of the FIM Motocross World
Championship in Thailand, and
he intended to keep it that way
at round three. He succeeded
in hanging on to the MXGP
points lead by taking his second
consecutive win of 2016, the
Monster Energy Yamaha Factory
rider going 3-1 to take the overall
victory this time in The Neth-
erlands at the GP of Europe in
Valkenswaard, Monday, March
28.
The sands of Valkenswaard
have never been easy, but the
Dutch circuit was made even
more difficult by gusting winds
and heavy downpours. It was
a test of true grit for many, and
those who endured the increas-
ingly rough bumps, muddy
puddles and ruts that developed
in the wet sand reaped the
rewards. Along with Febvre, Red
Bull KTM Factory Racing's Jef-
frey Herlings emerged victorious
after a weekend of racing.
In the premier MXGP ranks,
Febvre started out with a third-
place finish in the opening
moto, but then demonstrated
why he is the defending cham-
pion by riding to a remarkable
win in the second moto, running
down eight-time FIM Motocross
World Champion Antonio Cairoli
to take the overall victory.
"I couldn't find my rhythm in
the first race," Febvre said. "The
Yamaha's Romain
Febvre used
an impressive
second-moto win
to nab the overall
victory at the GP of
Europe.
