WAYNE RAINEY'S FATHER,
SANDY, PASSES AWAY
S
andy Rainey, father of three-time 500cc Grand Prix
World Champion Wayne Rainey, died Friday, March
18. A former racer himself, who won Southern Califor-
nia scrambles and TT races in the 1960s, Sandy went
on to help his son get into racing. He also tuned for and
coached other riders including Bubba Shobert, Kenny
Roberts, Jr. and Jimmy Filice.

PAULIN INJURED
T
eam HRC Honda's Gautier Paulin will be
sidelined for a while after suffering injuries
when he fell while practicing in Lommel, Belgium.
According to the team, Paulin "hit a soft spot on
the ground, which stopped the bike, sending him
over the bars with his bike landing on top of him."
Paulin sustained a fractured vertebrate and a
broken rib.
It is not yet known when he might be able to
return to the MXGP circuit. Paulin was 11
th
in the
championship after the first two races in Qatar and
Thailand. CN
Gautier Paulin will miss at least a few rounds of the
MXGP championship after suffering a fractured
vertebrate and a broken rib.

STROUPE ARRESTED
J
ust a few months after reigniting his racing career, Austin
Stroupe appears to be in trouble with the law.
Stroupe, who landed a fill-in job on the Rockstar Energy FMC
Racing OTSFF Husqvarna Team in AMSOIL Arenacross and re-
cently finished third in Birmingham, Alabama, was taken into
custody, March 10, by the Union County Sheriff's Department
in Wingate, North Carolina, for allegedly driving under the influ-
ence and then being found to be in possession of marijuana
and heroin, which is a felony. CN
Arenacross racer Austin Stroupe (right, after finishing third
at the Birmingham Arenacross in February) was arrested
on felony drug possession in North Carolina.
