ROUND 10 / MARCH 12, 2016
TORONTO, CANADA / ROGERS CENTRE

DAVALOS WATCHES
Back in 2010 when the super-
cross series went to Toronto,
Dean Wilson—originally from
Scotland—couldn't make it
back into the USA because of
immigration problems. Even
with a team of people working
on it full-time, Wilson ended up
missing the following two races
in Dallas and Jacksonville while
the Canadian and American
governments (slowly) worked
things out, effectively destroy-
ing Wilson's first supercross
championship chase.
But he wasn't the points
leader going into or coming out
of Toronto. This year, Rockstar
Energy Husqvarna's Martin
Davalos (originally from Ecua-
dor) was the championship
leader in the 250SX East as
the series headed to Canada,
and he didn't make the trip.
Neither did his French team-
mate Christophe Pourcel (who
won the 250cc East champion-
ship in 2010, the year that his
Pro Circuit teammate Wilson
got stuck north of the border).
The official word from the
team stated that Pourcel had a
practice crash and was sitting
out Toronto to recover, and that
Davalos was dealing with some
sort of personal issue that would
keep him from traveling north of
the border.
However, sources close to the
situation indicated that Pourcel
did actually have a fall and injured
his back, but he might have been
able to race, and that both he
Martin Davalos was the
250SX points leader
going into the Toronto
Supercross, but visa
issues prevented the
Ecuadorian from making
the trip north. As a
result, he was forced to
watch Jeremy Martin
(6) take the spot in the
standings that he once
owned. Davalos is now
20 points back in fourth.
and Davalos sat out the Toronto
round due to potential immigration
issues. In short, they weren't sure
they could get back into the USA if
they went to Toronto.
Pourcel wasn't in the cham-
pionship hunt this time, but with
Davalos being the champion-
ship leader, the team, along with
Husqvarna, are pretty upset with
how things went down.
None of them are likely as
upset as Davalos, though. He
has 20 points to make up in the
remaining rounds if he wants to
take down his first professional
championship in his 11th year as
a professional racer.
