CN III VOICES L E T T E R S T O T H E E D I T O R "No need to run JS7 into the ground on his way out." Gene Ritchie, R.I.P This morning I lost a very good friend, Gene Ritchie. Gene was the owner of RedBud Track and Trail in Buchanan, Michigan. Beyond all of his accom- plishments most of all Gene was my friend. Gene was about 20 years older than me but served as best man in my wed- ding. "Geno" and I spent many days, weeks and years hunting together. Hunting was another passion Gene and I shared. Last Wednesday, Gene called me to see if my wife and I would like to join him for dinner. We did but Geno just didn't seem to be himself. He's had a lot of health issues over the years and has told me that he was ready to go anytime the Good Lord would take him. Today was that day. Rest in peace Geno, my friend. Rick Young DeCoster: Not Stewart's Fault James Stewart had nothing to do with it [Marvin Musquin not winning the Atlanta Super- cross]. KTM and DeCoster showed some class by step- ping up and clearing up. Willy Henderson Hard to believe they needed to generate a press release to say the obvious. Unfortunate timing? Yes! Evil malacious intent? Absolutely not! Mark Bates Great show of class. Stewart was absolutely wrong in being where he was at that point, but it's racing. Musquin has a bright future. No need to run JS7 into the ground on his way out. Anthony Giuffrida Roger D. is absolutely the best. The sport is truly lucky to have someone of his character and integrity. Harry Rasant It took James a few seconds too long to get out of the way. Let's face it, Stewart isn't used to being lapped. However, he was totally out of the way when Marvin made his mistake and came up short on the triple. Still, it was a great ride by Mar- vin and Dungey! Chad Jones Stewart stayed on his line, but he tried to run with the lead- ers and he was being lapped. That's what the problem was. Had he not been racing with the leaders and Marvin messed up, no blame would be put on Stewart. The fact that Stewart "isn't used to being in that posi- tion of being lapped" means nothing. He has been racing long enough and has bicthed about enough lapped riders over the years that he knows better and should have let them go. Mark Mau Stewart was pulled way over to the left and slowed. Musquin said he heard Dungey coming, he lost his concentration and lost control—by himself. It was not like Stewart was taking the centerline and blocking. Wayne Nagata H2, Ugly? I wouldn't kick it out of bed, but I think for team green it is a missed opportunity to make something really beautiful and stupid fast. It's kind of a bike from the future in its technol- ogy, but also I think a missed opportunity to do something style-wise. Looks go a long way with the riding and non-riding public.
