50 Years Ago March 10, 1966
Eddie Mulder made the front page again after capturing yet another victory, this
time at the 100-lap Ascot Grand Prix TT. We reported that he claimed a record-
winning purse of $1180. The race was scheduled to be shown later on ABC's
"Wide World Of Sports"… The Coachella Valley M.C. held a hare scrambles
race in Coachella (near Palm Springs), California, and it was Larry Bergquist
taking the win on a BSA… We talked about reviving the Catalina Grand Prix
which was last held in 1958.
40 Years Ago March 9, 1976
We tested the Yamaha IT400C and it was featured in action on the cover of
Cycle News 40 years ago… Many of the stars of motocross showed up for
the fifth round of the Winter-AMA Series in Cocoa Beach, Florida, where Tony
DiStefano and Bob Hannah came away with the overall wins… We caught
up with bike-builder Don Vesco… Marty Tripes helped us test Bultaco's 250
and 370cc motocrossers… Marty Smith, Warren Reid, Eddie Lawson, Gary
Denton, Marty Tripes and Larry Roeseler were some of the names making
the local headlines.
20 Years Ago March 6, 1996
Jeremy McGrath and John Dowd shared the cover of Cycle News 20
years ago for winning their respective classes at the Atlanta Supercross…
Carlos Checa also got a spot on the cover from the Grand Prix test from
Jerez. Jean-Michel Bayle was second quickest in the 500cc class…The
AMA National Championship Enduro Series got underway in California at the
Clear Creek Recreation Area and Kawasaki's Ty Davis came away with the
overall win… We interviewed motocrosser James Dobb… Steve Hatch won
the Wilseyville Hare Scrambles.

30 Years Ago March 12, 1986
Eddie Lawson testing his FZ750 Yamaha Superbike at Daytona was featured
on the cover 30 years ago. We also had an interview with the former 500cc
World Champion… Rick Johnson and George Holland got off to a fast start
in the AMA National Championship MX Series opener in Gainesville, Florida.
Johnson topped the 250 class and Holland the 125 class… We interviewed
Team Lucky Strike Roberts' Team Manager
Kenny Roberts and riders Randy Mamola and
Mike Baldwin.
