FACTORY YAMAHA'S RETURN TO SUPERCROSS
P84
We're in a good spot, he's very
happy with his bike, so we'll see
where we get."
Only several weeks into the
season, and people are already
talking about the future of the
team. Will there be any ad-
ditional riders? Will they race
outdoors? Many indicate Coo-
per Webb as the next member
of the factory Yamaha team, as
the white-hot 250 racer is due
to make the move to the 450SX
class in 2017. But for now, the
team is remaining tight-lipped
about the future.
"It will be Chad Reed at the mo-
ment," was all Perry volunteered.
"Right now it will just be
Supercross and we'll be racing
[both] the U.S. GPs," McCarty
added, referring to the American
rounds of the 2016 FIM Moto-
cross World Championship in
North Carolina and California.
While their progress in the
2016 Supercross Series is rela-
tively modest, and their plans for
the future not yet revealed, there
is still plenty to be excited about.
The fact that the factory Yamaha
team resurrected itself from a
recession-induced dormancy
and can still compete at the top
is a promising sign—a promise of
an exciting future, while also call-
ing back to a notable past. CN
"I THINK FOR THE
FANS, CHAD HAS
BEEN A FAVORITE FOR
MANY YEARS AND IT'S
GREAT TO SEE HIM
HOME AGAIN."
Right now, the Factory Yamaha
Team is only committed to SX with
Reed in 2016, and will help him at
the two U.S. GP MX rounds. Next
year is still up in the air but it's
probably safe to say that Cooper
Webb will be in their plans.
