he racing industry was facing
some bleak times in 2009. The
economic turndown was weigh-
ing heavy on the budgets of OEMs,
especially when it came to racing.
Racing managers such as Yamaha's
Keith McCarty were armed with mini-
mal resources, and faced with tough
decisions when it came to finding
ways to keep their bikes in the super-
cross spotlight—not an easy task even
on a large budget.
The 2010 season brought about
some big changes at Yamaha. For the
coming season, Big Blue had made
the decision to cut most of its own
internal factory racing effort, and pass
along the resources to its contingent
of factory-backed teams. The decision
made a lot of sense at the time. After
