PETRUCCI BITES THE DUST
D
anilo Petrucci, star of
Sepang tests and fastest on
day one at Phillip Island, might
miss the first race after fractur-
ing the second,
third and fourth
metacarpals in his
right hand, with sur-
gery essential and a
recovery period of
at least four weeks.
The Italian, who
confirmed his status
as a rising star with
second place at Sil-
verstone last year,
was transferred to
Melbourne following
the crash, where
the Octo Pramac
team would decide
whether to have the
operation there or at home in
Italy.
Petrucci was one of a hatful
of fallers on the final day, includ-
ing even Jorge Lorenzo, most
blaming over-enthusiasm on
cold tires.

CADALORA IN
ROSSI'S CORNER
F
ormer champions can make excellent rider
coaches for learner-racers. But who would
be good enough to tutor Valentino Rossi?
Step forward Luca Cadalora, former 125
and 250 Champion and 500 GP winner of the
1990s.
Cadalora, a highly respected figure, was an
unexpected companion to Rossi at Phillip Island,
filling the same advisory role as ex-GP winner
Wilco Zeelenberg for Lorenzo.
The pair had started riding together last year,
Rossi said, when he was circulating the produc-
tion Yamaha at the resurfaced Misano prior to the
GP, with Cadalora also taking a coaching role in
the VR46 academy.
Cadalora was always an analytical and technical
rider, said Rossi. The aim, he continued, was "to
try to understand if he can give me some advice."

Cadalora was
a familiar face
in unfamiliar
territory as
Rossi's advisor
at Phillip Island.
