MONSTER ENERGY AMA SUPERCROSS SERIES, AN FIM WORLD
ROUND 7 / FEBRUARY 20, 2016
AT&T STADIUM / ARLINGTON, TEXAS
P42
250SX
Without question, the rider who
left the stadium that night the
most disappointed was Monster
Energy/Pro Circuit/Kawasaki's
Joey Savatgy. Last week in San
Diego, he scored another big
win and pulled out a three-point
lead over former points leader
Cooper Webb, and this was
shaping up to be another great
night for the Kawasaki rider.
Savatgy quickly got the Arling-
ton track dialed in and was the
quickest 250 qualifier of the
day. He scored a big heat
race win over Christian
Craig, one of the hot-
test riders in the class right
now, while Webb misjudged
the starting gate in his heat race
and finished sixth, which meant
that Savatgy would have a much
better gate pick for the main and
a huge mental edge over Webb.
Savatgy had high hopes of pad-
ding his points lead going into
the main, but those hopes and
his bike came crashing down on
him just a few laps into the race.
Again, the 250SX main
started off positively for Sa-
vatgy, completing the first lap
in second place right behind
leader Craig, the rider he beat
earlier in the night. All was going
great for him until Craig moved
over on Savatgy in the whoops.
Craig's back wheel side-swiped
Savatgy's front wheel and the
Kawasaki rider went flying over
the bars and got pummeled by
his bike, not to mention getting
nearly run over by third-place
Webb, who did a great job of
avoiding the crashing rider.
Amazingly, Savatgy was not
injured in the violent crash and
remounted quickly, but when
you crash so early in the race
like he did, it doesn't take long
for the whole field to pass you,
which is exactly what happened.
Suddenly, Savatgy's dream night
turned into a nightmare and he
had to start all over again, but
this time in last place!
Savatgy somehow managed
to regroup and put the crash be-
hind him and work his way back
up to 10
th
before it was all over.
You could almost feel his disap-
