P100 50 Years Ago February 24, 1966 We featured an article written by Wes Cooley, the new Motorcycle Director for Riverside International Raceway, regarding the facility requesting to host a world championship event, which would mean getting FIM approval… Cal Rayborn made front-page news for winning an AMA-sanctioned road race at Carlsbad Raceway. He edged out Gary Nixon and Dick Hammer for the victory... We covered a hillclimb competition at Outlaw Canyon in Bakersfield, California… We also covered multiple drag racing events from the southern California area. 40 Years Ago February 24, 1976 Gaylon Mosier was pictured on the front page of Cycle News 40 years ago to accompany our interview with the rising motocross star… Bob Hannah and Jimmy Ellis were the big winners at the second round of the Winter-AMA series in Orlando, Florida. The race was held inside the Orlando Sports Stadium… We covered the Parker 400 where Larry Roeseler and A.C. Bakken teamed up to take the win aboard their Husqvarna 360… Dick Fuller, Bob Blose and Bruce Ogilvie were some of the names making the local headlines this week. LOOKING BACK 20 Years Ago February 21, 1996 We focused our attention on trials 20 years ago. We tested three trials bikes in the issue: the Beta Techno, Gas Gas JTR250 and Fantic Section. They were all pictured in action on the cover in the hands of photo models Geoff Aaron, Matt Moore and Mike Craig… Jeremy McGrath continued his winning ways after topping the San Diego Supercross at Jack Murphy Stadium.
