WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP VOL. 53 ISSUE 5 FEBRUARY 9, 2016 P49 My Own Race: 3 ELI TOMAC 3 RD 450SX Eli Tomac was happy to get on the podium for the first time but admits that he's still not where he was before he injured both his shoulders last year in June. His speed is pretty much there but not for the entire 20 laps. "I [had] winning speed, I just have to finish it," he said. "I was catching Kenny until [lap] nine, 10 or 11, then… he just rode a solid pace the whole time and got away. When I can put away the last 10 or 11 laps I'll be good. I think I can get there sooner than later. Overall, I'm pretty happy because at one point I was catching the leader, I just didn't finish it and Dungey is riding pretty unbeliev- able, and Kenny is riding awesome, too. Those guys are really on their game right now, but I can't expect too much right now, heck this is only my fifth race back." 21 JASON ANDERSON 4 TH 450SX For the third time this season, Rockstar Energy Husqvarna's Jason Anderson had to qualify for the main event through a Semi (which he won for the third time), and was hampered by a bad start in the main, emerging right behind Ryan Dungey after the first few turns. "I came off the start about eighth or ninth, at least not 12 th like last weekend," Anderson said. "I got up to fourth and felt like I was coming up to Tomac a little bit, but by that point it was kind of game over. I got stuck be- hind a couple of guys. I was behind Dungey at the start and he got second, I should've latched on to him a little bit sooner. I was trying to catching him but over-rode a little bit." 37 JOEY SAVATGY 3 RD 250SX Monster Energy/Pro Circuit/Ka- wasaki's Joey Savatgy couldn't capitalize on Cooper Webb's mistake in the main event and later admitted that he wasn't feeling 100-percent because of an illness and couldn't find a rhythm in the whoops. He is now tied with Webb for the series points lead. "Today was pretty good," said Savatgy. "We ended up qualifying second and had a pretty good heat race, where we were able to come home with another heat win. We struggled in a few key sections of the track but to come home with a podium and salvage points is great, but we want to work for another win and keep the red plate for another weekend."
