Neither Roczen nor Dungey got the holeshot
in the 20-lap final. That instead went to earlier
Heat-race winner Davi Millsaps on the BTOSports.
com KTM, and Roczen was right behind him. That
familiar number-one Red Bull KTM of Dungey's was
nowhere to be seen among the leaders like it like
it has been since SD1. Instead, it was found way
back, somewhere in the middle of the 22-rider field.
Roczen saw his chance for victory and ran
with it, displacing Millsaps before the first lap
was over and then dropping the hammer, trying
to build up as much of a lead as he could while
Dungey was being held up in traffic.
Roczen opened up a small lead but had a new
worry on his hands—Tomac.
450SX
ROLE REVERSAL
Going into the 450SX Main event Dungey looked
in great shape to extend his win streak to four.
He's been riding a wave of momentum ever since
his San Diego 1 victory and was the quickest
qualifier on the fast and long Arizona track. Roc-
zen looked good, too, as did Tomac, but Dungey
had them both covered by about a half-second.
Christophe Pourcel again put his Husqvarna
in the mix; in fact, he was second quickest in
qualifying, but the Frenchman has yet been able
to parlay his quick practice afternoon times into
evening results. Dungey also dominated his heat
race. So, win number-four seemed inevitable for
Dungey. But, as every racer will tell, it's all about
Roczen
celebrated
his first Main-
event win since

with a massive
whip over the
finish-line jump.
