IN THE WIND P26 KTM RC16 TO DEBUT AT AUSTRIAN MOTOGP T he eagerly awaited KTM RC16 will make its public debut at the Austrian MotoGP race later this sea- son. The machine has been under- going extensive testing in Austria and Spain in the hands of former Mo- toGP rider Alex Hoffman and Mika Kallio, with KTM reporting positive lap times—although no official test times have yet been released. It's a busy time for the Mattighofen manufacturer, with news published in last week's Cycle News they have partnered with sister company WP suspension to develop a new Moto2 contender for the 2017 season with test riders Thomas Luthi and Randy de Puniet. CN MY FRIEND, GAVIN A ndrea Iannone is known for having a good sense of humor, and it showed with his winter test helmet at Sepang. His helmet commemorated his infamous collision with a seagull during last year's Australian GP. "It is dedicated to my friend the Australian Seagull," he said. "Gavin," as he was quickly dubbed, became a posthumous internet sensation following his unfortunate meeting with the front of Iannone's Desmosedici. Dedicated Facebook pages sprung up in memoriam and t-shirts were quickly fashioned. Gavin can now add Iannone's helmet to the list of personal wear that his famous beak now adorns. CN Kallio looks like he's having fun on the KTM MotoGP bike at Valencia. We might be seeing a wildcard from him this year, but nothing is confirmed yet. Iannone clearly hasn't forgotten about the life he took at Phillip Island. What a gentleman. PHOTOGRAPHY COURTESY KTM PHOTOGRAPHY BY GOLD & GOOSE
