mous model now means enough TZs
exist to have their own race.
But the bike to beat is still an F1
XR69-styled Harris-framed Honda or
Yamaha.
This soon became apparent as
Australian international racer Jed
Metcher (Harris-Honda) and Team
UK lead rider Jeremy McWilliams
(Harris-Yamaha) slugged it out all
weekend to tie on individual points.
The UK came to Phillip Island with
the same bikes team manager Roger
Winfield built for the Isle of Man
Classic TT. His core teammates were
experienced riders of modern ma-
chinery and a band of brothers. Their
sole focus was the main event.
Things were different over in the
other team camps, with a mixture
of machinery in various capacities.
tween teams from five countries, 350
riders with nearly 500 motorcycles
compete in support events catering
to all vintage and classic classes.
This means team supporters can
also come and race, so there is
something for everyone.
Buoyed by their success last year,
Team USA added two top vintage rac-
ers to their line-up for 2016: multiple
classic champion Pat Mooney and
Nick Ienatsch, a vastly experienced
racer-journalist.
Mooney was riding a Harris-Ya-
maha FJ1100, built to a similar spec
to the UK team. Ienatsch was on a
Yamaha TZ750 in a beautiful Spon-
don alloy frame.
There was a range of TZs in all the
teams except the UK. The availability
of all-new components for this fa-
AMA fans will recognize those eyes: Marty "Mad Eyes" Cragill made a return
to the racetrack for the first time in years on a beautiful Yamaha TZ750.
