canyon. It's designed to be toughest extreme enduro
in the west, though the top finishers conquered
everything thrown at them with seeming ease, as-
tounding race creator/trail boss Jimmy Lewis as well
the spectators.
Each year, KoM's format as well as the course
gets a little tweak here and there to make it appeal-
ing to both riders and spectators, especially those
watching the live feed online. For the fifth edition,
it began with a morning race to get riders used to
the required GPS navigation and to determine "gate
picks" for the all-important afternoon race, which
consisted of a nine-mile-long, figure-eight-shaped
course that would end after three hours.
The morning race featured slightly different
courses with the one for the Sportsmen 24 miles
long. Pros tackled a more difficult start with a sepa-
