WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP
VOL. 53 ISSUE 4 FEBRUARY 2, 2016 P53
Ever since supercross and ar-
enacross promoter Feld Motor-
sports began the "Ricky Carmi-
chael Road to Supercross," there
have been a lot of naysayers who
correctly pointed out that most of
the top racers in arenacross are
actually former supercross rac-
ers, which means that the more
accurate "road" is normally to
arenacross after racing super-
cross, not the other way around.
However, Colt Nichols is a
graduate of exactly that program,
having raced arenacross back in
2014. Not only that, but Nichols
even raced the KTM Junior Su-
percross Challenge when he was
only seven years old!
He moved up to supercross in
2015, racing for the MotoSport.
com/Crossland Racing team in
the 250cc East, scoring his best
THE GRADUATE: COLT NICHOLS
finish of sixth place that year
before blowing out his knee. He
spent the rest of the year on the
sideline, but was signed for 2016
by the CycleTrader.com Yamaha
team.
The Oklahoman has shown
outstanding speed all year, and
landed his first top-five finish at
round two in San Diego. In Oak-
land, with a little bit of help from
a mechanical problem for Coo-
per Webb and an early fall from
Christian Craig, Nichols landed
his first-ever podium finish with a
very solid second place behind
Joey Savatgy, and just in front of
Craig.
Nichols may end up being
considered the stereotypical
"That's how things are supposed
to work" poster child for the
Road to Supercross.
