IN THE WIND P32 NJMP GETS A PAINT JOB T he New Jersey Motorsports Park in Millville, NJ, has just repainted all the white lines around the racetrack in the FIM-approved paint that's used on the MotoGP racetracks of Europe. The difference between this and normal paint is the FIM-approved stuff is much grippier in wet and slippery conditions, allowing riders to run over the white lines without the fear associated of losing the front on entry or rear on exit. "This is really step one in us being proactive on improving the safety elements of our racetrack," said Brad Scott, Chief Operating Officer of New Jersey Motorsports Park. "If there's FIM-approved paint available for us to use on our curbing and white lines, why not make the effort to get it done? Rider safety is of utmost importance to us, and this was just one more thing we could do to advance the safety of our facility." "While paint may seem like a pretty simple thing, the FIM-approved paint is a big difference maker in terms of safety," said MotoAmerica part- ner, Chuck Aksland. "It adds grip to the white lines and the curbing and any time you can increase the grip level of your racetrack you've made a big step toward improving safety. We applaud NJMP for making this happen." CN SHIMANO HOSTS MOTO RIDE DAY T he morning after Anaheim II Supercross, many of the top riders headed to Irvine, California, to the Shimano American head- quarters for a day of fun on two wheels—without motors. Shimano hosted a Moto Athlete Ride Day, and over 100 participants from the moto industry including Shimano athletes Chad Reed, Cooper Webb, Cole Seeley, Davi Millsaps, Justin Brayton, Broc Tickle and Wil Hahn joined in on the fun. A number of former champions including Jeremy McGrath, Jeff Ward and Ryan Hughes also came along for the 18.5-mile ride into the Whiting Ranch Wilderness Park area. "I've been a huge motocross fan for years and I love seeing how into cycling these guys are," said Shimano's Joe Lawwill, who pre- sented the moto athletes with jerseys commemorating Shimano's 50 th anniversary in the U.S. "It means a lot to us that these guys make the effort to come spend the day with us, especially the guys that raced the night before!" PHOTOGRAPHY BY SHIMANO Torrential conditions like what faced riders last year won't be so bad with the new paint at NJMP.
