Our big feature story 50 years ago was our race coverage of the European
Desert Scrambles held in the Mojave Desert, which was co-hosted by the
Spokebenders and Greyhound Motorcycle Clubs. One of the big winners was
Ron Nelson in the 500cc Expert division… The Sinners Elsinore TT Scrambles
got a lot of ink. Dusty Coppage was a big winner, and Don Ogilvie and
Malcolm Smith were among the front-runners… We also talked about Earl
Roeseler, Don Vesco and Jim Hunter and
their racing plans for 1966.

LOOKING BACK
30 Years Ago January 29, 1986
We covered what many considered the best supercross race ever, the back-
and-forth duel between factory Honda teammates David Bailey and Rick
Johnson at the Anaheim Supercross. Eventually, Bailey pulled away for the
win and ended up on the cover of Cycle News… Bob Hannah and JoJo
Keller kept tearing it up at the Florida Winter-AMA MX Series, this time at
Croom Raceway… We finished our two-part 125cc MX comparison test. The
winner? The Honda CR125R… We investigated
new technology by BMW—anti-lock brakes.
