450SX What can you say? Ryan Dungey is in complete command of the 450SX class! So far at least. Just three races in and the Red Bull KTM rider already has two wins and a second place under his belt, and that second place could have been a win at Anaheim 1 had he not fallen and dropped to seventh before catching back up late in the race. Finishing second after running as far back as sev- enth with this stacked of a field, he could easily have justified that as being a win as well. Despite his one faux pa at A1, Dungey has been riding as solid as a rock and now has a 13-point lead in the championship. Dungey has been regularly getting out in front early, riding fast and staying out of trouble, which are things none of his competitors can say right now. And A2 was no exception for Dungey. Although he didn't get the holeshot in the 20-lap Main, he did put his KTM in second place right behind another KTM ridden by BTO Sports' Davi Millsaps, who really came alive this week. Millsaps, who hadn't led a supercross since 2013, led the first three of this one and looked great while doing so—except for one extremely close call—but he still couldn't keep Dungey at bay any longer. After surrendering the point position, Millsaps hung tough but would slide back to an eventual seventh. Once out in front, Dungey seemed to go just as fast as he needed to keep Chad Reed at bay, just like he did last week at San Diego. The 33-year-old Reed, on the Monster Energy/360fly/Chaparral Yamaha, is beginning to find his consistency and speed after finishing sixth at A1. He too got a good start, got around Millsaps shortly after Dungey did, and hung with Dungey the rest of the way, but, unfortunately for him, a few seconds behind the number-one KTM. He couldn't make a dent into Dungey's lead; when Reed picked up his speed, so did Dungey. Reed had a scare when Monster Energy Ka- wasaki's Eli Tomac came calling late in the race, setting the stage for a great final-lap showdown, SUPERCROSS MONSTER ENERGY AMA SUPERCROSS SERIES, AN FIM WORLD ROUND 3 / JANUARY 23, 2016 ANGEL STADIUM OF ANAHEIM / ANAHEIM, CALIFORNIA P40 Davi Millsaps (18) showed glimpses of his old self while leading the first three laps of the Main, but then Ryan Dungey got by him and ran off with the win.
