My Own Race:
V513 DESTRY ABBOTT
1ST VET HEAVYWEIGHT EXPERT
One of the newest series sponsors with his DA8 Train-
ing business, Destry Abbott jumped at the chance to get
in one race on the weekend and went home the overall
winner of the Vet race while topping the Vet Heavyweight
Expert class on his Monster Energy/FMF/THOR-backed
KX450F. "I got second behind Mark Tilley [at the start]
and we had a great battle going. I was able to get around
him and slowly pull away. I don't know; I never saw him
again. (Tilley DNFed after a fourth-gear get-off when his
bike hiccuped as it hit a bump.) I was having a blast! I had
fun and just rode a smooth race. Really, this is Adelanto
[and] I love going to Adelanto. I have a lot of wins here [at
the old Adelanto GP]. It's always fun and the crowd's into
it. I want to hit more of them."
249 BEAU BARON
3RD WCGP PRO II/14TH O/A
"I got somewhere around an eighth-place start," said
Beau Baron. "I'm a big guy on a 250F. I put my head
down and I just started catching and catching and catch-
ing, and I finally got into third, but [Newton and Anderson]
were way out front and I just reeled them in! Slowly,
slowly, slowly. They pitted one lap and I pitted the next. I
had the lead for one lap [but] they got it back. Then I put
on a charge because we had all pitted. I ran them down
and I passed them both. I was trying to check out and I
was in such a hurry in the EnduroCross, it bit me in the
butt. I came up the [stair steps] and I slid underneath my
bike all the way [back] down! I was stuck down at the bot-
tom. I saw Jeremy go by, then I saw Mitch go by."
1 COLTON UDALL 7TH WCGP
Defending AMA D-37/MSR Big 6 Grand Prix Series
Champion Colton Udall had a miserable start to his 2016
season. Having decided to switch to a CRF450R instead
of the 450X he's raced for most of the past six years or
so, he had just 30 minutes on it before taking it to the
line. But the Ox Motorsports Honda leader said, "I got a
pretty good start then [Justin] Seeds and I came together.
I heard him and I shut the door and he just slammed
it. He's riding pretty good so he's confident. He hit me
and I went off a berm; I didn't really lose much [ground].
Halfway through the lap I pushed the front end pretty hard
and crashed. I picked it up pretty much in last. I got going
again, but I just didn't feel that great." He added, "I could
still win the championship from seventh [place here]. I just
need to win some races again."
