WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP VOL. 53 ISSUE 2 JANUARY 19, 2016 P49 41 TREY CANARD 7TH 450SX "All day was really good," Trey Canard said. "Everyone was happy with the bike, and my riding was on point in qualifying and in the heat race but the main just wasn't what we wanted. I just didn't ride well; I was tight, picked poor lines and didn't fix my mistakes. Then I jumped too long on a section, landed in a hole, missed the brake and went off the track. It was a bummer, but I'm glad I got the points for seventh. That's better than nothing, and I'm walking away healthy so overall that's an okay night. It's a long series, so hopefully we can improve and keep moving forward." 3 ELI TOMAC 4TH 450SX "The start was really important," said Monster Energy Kawa- saki's Eli Tomac. "What was tough about it was the second straightaway and the third straightaway. Getting across the on/ off jumps was big. I got jacked up there in the heat race, and then in the main I was able to actually make up spots there even though I had a terrible start. When you have a track like this where everyone's pretty even, you've got to treat every part of the day as really important, because it really is. You've got to treat your heat race like a main on a track like this. Even though I got fourth and qualified out of my heat, I still got the eighth gate pick in the main and I was stuck two outside of the doghouse. It's tough from out there. The whole night snowballs on a track like this when everyone is really close like this. Even though I got the same result, it was an improvement. I made my bike better and my body's getting a little bit better. I'm feeling a little more comfy." 1W COOPER WEBB 1ST 250SX "Mentally, I just didn't put myself where I needed to be," Webb said of his early struggles throughout the night program. "Last year, this is where I got hurt, and that was a little bit in my head today, but I pulled my head out of my butt and decided to get it done in that main. It wasn't a great start at all, which was a real shame, but it was cool to come through the pack and pass all the guys like that. It was pretty awesome. It was late in the race before I made the pass, so it was a late-race charge, but I'm just stoked to be back up here."
