CHAD REED:
BACK IN BLUE
Thirty-three-year-old Chad Reed
didn't quite crack the top five but
the Aussie had a good showing
on his re-debut on the Factory
Yamaha Team. He could be
found mixing it up near the front
in both his heat race and the
Main event, and he finished out
the night in sixth.
"I feel like I was a lot better
than that [sixth] to be honest,"
Reed said. "I had flashes of how
I need to feel. The restart kind
of threw me off. I kind of had
a good rhythm going—I think I
was fifth or something but I was
kind of in my groove—then the
red flag. Stopping and starting
again; the second one I just
didn't have the same flow. I don't
know what it was, I don't know if
I was hot and sweaty from doing
a couple of laps, but when I put
my goggles back on, I kind of
struggled for a little bit; kind of
like when you're in Florida in the
AC and you walk out into the hot,
so I threw my goggles off and
then I actually felt like I could get
my rhythm back again.
"Of course I want to be on
the podium, you always want to
win, and I felt that I was good
enough to be on the podium
tonight, but just didn't execute.
My starts need to improve a lot;
Monday morning, that's the first
thing [to work on], but my bike is
great. This is my 14
th
go-around
[season] and you always leave
Anaheim learning a lot, and I
would say that bike-wise, we're
pretty damn good. I need a little
better feel on the start, so we're
going to work hard this week on
starts. I can honestly say that
in my previous 14 years that I've
never left here with only need-
ing to work on my start, so that's
pretty impressive."
Chad Reed showed flashes of his
old self, like when he passed Justin
Barcia in the Main, but couldn't quite
crack the top five. He rode well but
admitted that he needs to work on
his starts.
